Hua the Bride
The one she was waiting for never came. Instead came news of his death, and a simple-minded groom.
She lulled the fool to sleep, then reached for the knife hidden beneath her dowry chest... She had heard of a way to bring the dead back.
The Matchmaker's Advice
Master Li has only one son, now twenty-three years old. He is good-natured, strong and healthy, and blessed with an astonishing appetite few could compare. Truly, an ideal son-in-law one could search a thousand miles and never find the equal of!
I sincerely hope you will give the matter careful thought, Master Song, lest your daughter miss such an excellent match.
Mrs. Wang, Matchmaker
A Reply from Hua's Father
My eternal gratitude to you for the effort you've made to make introductions and ensure this arrangement.
For my daughter to marry into such distinguished holdings is surely the culmination of my ancestors' good deeds, and the fortune of three lifetimes!
As for the rumors that my daughter has been friends with my neighbor's son, it is nothing but neighborhood gossip, so please do not worry about it, Madam! I will be sure to strictly instruct her to be more sensible, to ensure this match is consummated!
Respectfully,
Song Fu
Letter from Hui
You absolutely can't marry that fool from the Li family!
I may not have their money, but I've got strength in my arms! You deserve the most beautiful flower on earth and the brightest moon in the sky, and I'll find them both for you!
Tomorrow at midnight, by the stream outside the village. I'll be waiting. Let's run away together!
Hui
A Reckless Invitation
There was a wedding in the neighboring village yesterday, but the joyous occasion turned into a funeral. The bride gutted the groom, then slipped away in the chaos and vanished without a trace!
They say she's a beauty unlike any other. If we really manage to catch her, I'd love to see what kind of woman she is! Anyone with the nerve, meet at Spider Lily Valley. Let's go meet this lovely bride ourselves!
To My Dear Husband, Liu Shangli
My love, I continue to wait for you beneath that smoke-filled tower...
I remember the night we watched the moon together. You pointed at it and made your vow to me. You said, "The blooming flowers and this shining moon, they are witnesses to our everlasting love."
Dearest husband, does your vow still hold?

To My Dear Husband, Huang Miao
My love, I continue to wait for you beneath that smoke-filled tower...
I remember the day you wove me flowers out of grass, and tucked them into my hair. There in that meadow, you made your vow to me. You said, "One day I'll be painting your brows for our wedding."
Dearest husband, does your vow still hold?

To My Dear Husband, Jia Qianqiu
My love, I continue to wait for you beneath that smoke-filled tower...
I remember when I found you. You were drunk and lying flat in a bed of crimson flowers, like a cat basking in the sun. But you whispered your vow to me. You said, "Our wedding banquet will earn the envy of even the richest families in the province."
Dearest husband, does your vow still hold?

About Hua
Hua, Deadly Betrothed
新娘阿花
A puppet bride has arranged a wedding hall amid the spider lilies beneath the Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley. All who follow the marriage contract or the rumors fall to her Scarlet Wraithblade. Their bodies lie among the flowers born beneath that blade, nourishing the Flesh Lilies.
Hua and Hui grew up together and had long loved one another. Her father, coveting wealth, ignored both her wishes and the Li bridegroom's feeble mind, forcing her to marry into the family. To extinguish her hopes, he even conspired with the Lis to murder Hui.
Hui's empty grave still stands behind the wedding hall. Though Hua has become a puppet and forgotten much of her past, one belief endures: when the Flesh Lily ripens, her beloved will return to life.
